Vertex disjoint 4-cycles in bipartite tournaments

Let $k\ge 2$ be an integer. Bermond and Thomassen conjectured that every digraph with minimum out-degree at least $2k?1$ contains $k$ vertex-disjoint cycles. Recently Bai, Li and Li proved this conjecture for bipartite digraphs. In this paper we prove that every bipartite tournament with minimum out-degree at least $2k?2$, minimum in-degree at least $1$ and partite sets of cardinality at least $2k$ contains $k$ vertex-disjoint 4-cycles whenever $k\ge 3$. Finally, we show that every bipartite tournament with minimum degree $\delta =min\{{\delta }^{+},{\delta }^{?}\}$ at least $1.5k?1$ contains at least $k$ vertex-disjoint 4-cycles.     

Effect of expanded graphite/layered-silicate clay on thermal, mechanical and fire retardant properties of poly(lactic acid)

Preparation of PLA based nanocomposites was carried out by using two different nanofillers: expanded graphite and organically modified montmorillonite. The addition and co-addition of these nanofillers to PLA using the melt-blending technique provides nanocomposites that showed significant enhancements in rigidity, thermal stability and fire retardancy of the polymer matrix. The presence of dispersed graphite nanolayers in PLA significantly accelerated the polyester crystallization, whereas the essential increase of thermal resistance is mainly connected to the addition of organoclay. The structure of the nanocomposites was examined by Wide Angle X-ray Scattering Analysis and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The improvement of thermal and mechanical properties obtained by the presence of both nanoparticles in PLA were associated to the good (co)dispersion and to the co-reinforcement effect, whilst the fire retardant properties were found to be related to the combined additive action of both nanofillers.     

Edge fault tolerance analysis of super k-restricted connected networks

An edge cut X of a connected graph G is a k-restricted edge cut if G-X is disconnected and every component of G-X has at least k vertices. Additionally, if the deletion of a minimum k-restricted edge cut isolates a connected component of k vertices, then the graph is said to be super-λ_k. In this paper, several sufficient conditions yielding super-λ_k graphs are given in terms of the girth and the diameter.     

Study of the mechanism of intumescence in fire retardant polymers: Part III—Effect of urea on the ammonium polyphosphate-pentaerythritol system

Urea, which is commonly used as a ‘blowing’ co-additive in intumescent coatings, is shown to depress intumescence when it is added to ammonium polyphosphate-pentaerythritol mixtures incorporated into the bulk of polypropylene. Concurrently, the fire retardant properties of the intumescent additive are depressed in the presence of urea although, in this case, a smaller amount of flammable hydrocarbons is evolved in the thermal degradation of the polymer.     

One-pot regioselective synthesis of 2(I),3(I)-O-(o-xylylene)-capped cyclomaltooligosaccharides: tailoring the topology and supramolecular properties of cyclodextrins

The alpha,alpha'-dibromo-o-xylylene cap has been installed at the secondary hydroxyls of a single glucopyranosyl residue in cyclodextrins in one pot and with total regioselectivity; the resulting cyclic ether acts as a removable hinge, allowing selective elaboration of the secondary face and modulating both the self-association and the inclusion capabilities of the hosts.     

Dendrimer-tetrachloroplatinate precursor interactions. 1. Hydration of Pt(II) species and PAMAM outer pockets

Density functional theory is used to investigate the structure and energetics of the tetrachloroplatinate anion and its hydrolysis products at several degrees of hydration, as well as those of outer dendrimer pockets hosting such species. The number of water molecules able to saturate an unprotonated outer dendrimer pocket is found to be two, as inferred from calculated thermodynamic data. However, such a number could not be established for a protonated pocket where the dendrimer adopts a more open configuration. An analysis of possible pocket configurations is done on the basis of the orientations of the amide O atoms in the outer pockets. The effect of explicit water on the infrared spectra of the dendrimer pockets is reported and compared to experimental values.     

New hydrothermal synthesis and structure of Th2(PO4)2(HPO4).H2O: the first structurally characterized thorium Hydrogenphosphate

Th(2)(PO(4))(2)(HPO(4)).H(2)O was synthesized under wet hydrothermal conditions starting from a mixture of H(3)PO(3) and Th(NO(3))(4).5H(2)O. The crystal structure was solved by powder X-ray diffraction data. The unit cell parameters are a = 6.7023(8) Angstroms, b = 7.0150(8) Angstroms, c = 11.184(1) Angstroms, beta = 107.242(4) degrees, space group P2(1), and Z = 2. The structure consists of layers of both thorium atoms and PO(4) groups, alternating with a layer formed by HPO(4) entities and water molecules. By thermal treatment, this compound turns into Th(4)(PO(4))(4)P(2)O(7), a ceramic already described in the field of the immobilization of tetravalent actinides.
